Sports and stuffs...

Today, I skipped church and went for the NUS Triathlon.

And it sure feels bad, skipping church so often to pursue seemingly meaningless interests. (that is, if you, like me, deem FUN as meaningless)

But anyway, i went for it and yeah! i've completed yet another half tri. wow. ha ha.
Ok, i shall stop being sarcastic.

You always wonder and question why things are so different from person to person when you put yourself in a position to compare woth others. Sports, studies, there are always people who excel and people who don't. Some just deserve credit for even trying. Absolute results, personal goals, making an improvement, just completing it for the expereince. etc etc, are just some reasons why people put in effort to do things. i ponder the purpose at times, but heck, i do it anyway, cos I CAN. haha. it seems to be a reminder that i am able bodied, and that God has been kind to me.

Back to National Day, i actually took my bike out for a real ride today, and it happened to be the first tiem i encountered the blistering pace of the Thomson group. Well, as expected, i was still dropped, but i knew i had tried, and it was an experience, an eye-opener. On Saturday, tested my runners legs in an 18 km time trial and it was suprisingly good! A shadow of the old form has returned. And Sun was the NUS Tri, which i completed with slight fatigue, possible from the previous day.

Oh well. Seems like i'm busy over nothing actually. In school, i still have not joined a single CCA!

Better late than never...

How long has it been since my last post? A week? Hmm 9 days, in fact.....
But as the title says, "better late than never". My blog shall continue...

Ok, so what could i have been possibly so busy with that i totaly neglected my new blog? Actually... nothing much! Just that it just seemed to slip my mind...

Enough ramblings about nothing. This week was actually my first week in university, and like it or not, it's only going to get worst.

Let's put it simply, i take 6 modules:

Critical Thinking & Writing
Physics 1
Mathematics 1
Government & Politics of Singapore
Living with Mathematics
Financial Accounting

Well, due to National falling on Tuesday, i stil haven't experienced a full week in school. Also, there have been absolutely no tutorials, which tranlates to no work and no direct interaction with the tutors / lecturers / proffs, or whatever you cal em... ah yes, Educators.

So, in a short summary, the half the lectures were plain boring, as they were just talking about introductory topics or topics that seemed strangely familiar. The new topoics: Government & Politics of Singapore and Financial Accounting in particular were more interesting. I had to watch the FNA lecture via webcast though, due to the nation's birthday.

School life, consisted mostly of walking around the place and taking shuttle bus from one place to another. And seems to occupy a lot of your tme. And you wonder with whom your next meal will be with, cos everyone goes their seperate ways!

T0 date, i've still not bought a single text book yet. Cos the queue in the bookshop is scary!!! Apart from textbooks, there are notes. And i've been spending time in the com lab and photocopying room producing them. And they cost money. Damn. And what's worst, is, i've still not read em!

Sigh, it seems i'm just complaining again. Yeah, that seems like a good idea in a blog. There are too many small things that have caught my attention actually, that make it impossible to write down. Maybe next time....

Chem Eng Orientation Week Day 1

I've finally made myself go for another orientation program....

This time, it's one that'll be much more relevant to me, cos it's regarding my tutorial class. I actually got to meet most of my "classmates" today. Well, as i had already known, the guy to girl ratio was disgusting once again, ever reducing my chances of losing the bachelor degree, if you know what i mean.

Well got to see many familiar army faces and some from RJ / RI. Not too bad today, even chancing upon 2 of my previous JC classmates, who have turned my seniors. Well, that's what the army does to you.

Orientation-wise, i did learn a few new things, like the library, photopying, printing in the com lab, taking the shuttle buses, some stuffs about modular bidding and textbooks as well as plaguerism, infringement of copyright etc.

The day ended with a kinda pathetic BBQ (refering specifically to the food). My ex OCS coy mate R shared his frame of mind with me about entering the University, and it sure made me realise how i must once again pick myself up to compete. Life in Singapore, it seems, is one long race after another, and it just doesn't seem to slow.

Handphone, bikes and stuff....

After my harrowing experience struggling with my spoilt phone the day before, i got myself a Nokia 6020 yesterday. My.... I spent 2 hours last night copying names and numbers from my old phone into my new one.....

Well, my new phone has colour, and a camera (thought it's pretty limited at best), but it does NOT have radio; contrary to not-so-trusty-anymore old phone...

And guess what? My old phone's working perfectly again now...

Oh yes about the incident 2 days ago with my phone, i basically was stranded outside my friend's hostel on my bike; unable to contact him, as i struggled with my phone for half an hour, trying desperately to get the keys to register. Well, in the end i failed / gave up and just locked my bike in a "secret place" before i proceeded.

And the 44 cm handlebar for my new bike finally came and was installed, nearly 2 weeks of waiting. The bike shop sure is "efficient" huh? Well, compared to the 2 months plus for the whole bike, it sure is... Well, time for some light weight carbon action!

And my laptop hasn't been very useful. No internet access from home, strange start up problems.... Hmmm, need to bring it to campus to log on to the wireless network.

Ok, enough of my ramblings! Got other stuffs to do...

Oh yah, i DO have a blog.....

Heh, having just remembered that i created this blog just yesterday, i've promptly decide to put up my next and only second entry....

Well, basically, I've been just passing time all this while, ever since my National Service ended in April. I slacked a month a way before i tried to find job via new papers. Not much luck with tuition agencies and insanely difficult for a guy like me to land a temp job as an admin clerk (my dream temp job). Most of the job interviews i went for turned out to be for marketing companies.

With the idea of making as much money as possible in the shortest time, i had even considered working night shifts in a factory in the Jurong Industrial area, near Tuas, but came to my senses at the last minute. I sure didn't want to lose my sanity and my sense of day/night. Furthermore, my cycling routine would be disrupted.

Well, following which, i had a short stint following my friend KC to his MLM company (multi-level marketing). I was really quite interested in how the company worked, and how a few individuals had actually made it so big in a relatively short time. Well, MLM sure is an aggressive marketing campaign, and it proved very busy and packed with activities. It was very specific in highlighting benefits to draw potential distributors to the trade, but i eventually decided that selling expensive healthcare products that i personally didn'y really believe in was not my cup of tea. I even took a peak at another friend's MLM coy, but it was still similar in nature. Lesson learnt: marketing isn't for me.

The only actual got I took up immediately after my stint above, was through my friend. I ended up working as a a clerk in a scaffolding company, which was co-run by my friend's mom. Well, basically i ended up as my friend's personal assistant / hands; settling the admin tasks he identified. We were basically there to establish a system in the admininstration, so that auntie could have her work load and stress levels reduced. Well, after countless hours of documentation, filing, photostating, refiling and relabeling, things DID look more organised. All in all it was a good learning experience, although it did get a bid boring / mind numbing at a certain point.

Well, so after that, it was looking towards my stint in the National University of Singapore...

What's in a blog?

Well, personally, this blog i created is just a window for me to put down things that have caught my attention. In someways, it's like a diary, and my transition into university this year provides good reason and opportunity for me to finally start one.

I wonder though, if i will actually upkeep this blog, or will it crumble like some of my past dwindlings?

I'll soon see...
